Creating the charming character of Jamal Woods proved to be an easy task for Kiko Ellsworth who is himself a charming character. Jamal burst onto the scene as a mysterious newcomer who seemed to have his hands into everything. Although his family history is relatively unknown, it was revealed early on that he is cousin to General Hospital's attorney Dara Jensen. His forbidden friendship with Alison Barrington blossomed into a loving relationship that has stood the test of family, murder, loss and the law. Combined, the pair offer humor, humility and strength. But the tragic death of Valerie has effected him in ways that remain to be seen and may cause him to lose Alison forever.
A recent student of Playhouse West, Mr. Ellsworth began studying with Bobbie Shaw Chance over three years ago. It was then, during an intense 18 months of study, that he realized his desire to act. Prior to his bartending days which helped pay for his acting classes he worked at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles and as a teacher. He also appeared extensively in commercials.
Mr. Ellsworth has starred in the feature films All or Nothing, Redemption and Easy Access. His additional television credits include guest-starring roles on ABC's Once and Again and Wasteland. One year after his introduction to the fans of Port Charles he received a nomination for Soap Opera Digest's Best Male Newcomer.
Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, he currently resides in Los Angeles. In his spare time he enjoys playing basketball, traveling and working to perfect his craft. A child advocate, Mr. Ellsworth taught special education in a one-on-one environment, as well as working with the Hathaway Children and Family Services organization.
